Will Eisner passed away on January 3rd, 2005
January 7, 2005

Will Eisner was a living legend in the comic book industry. A driving force in the 1930's & 1940's, his first work (two features: Harry Karry and The Flame) appeared in 1936 in Wow-What A Magazine!

A gifted writer, artist and businessman, his Eisner/Iger comic book shop produced hundreds of pages each month employing such historic names as Jack Kirby, Bob Kane, Lou Fine, Jack Cole, Reed Crandall and Matt Baker.

Eisner took a huge risk, venturing into unchartered territory with the innovative 16-page Spirit newspaper section. It was read by as many as five million people every week for twelve years.

"A Contract With God" by Will Eisner was the first modern graphic novel. His latest, The Plot, is due to be released later this spring by W.W. Norton.
